Programs and Services The Department of Health and Human Services sets "overweight and obesity" as one of the top 10 national health concerns. The Bariatric Program at Jewish Memorial Hospital restores health in individuals suffering from morbid obesity and its devastating consequences by providing a devoted and excellent program that provides quality care, education, guidance and support. Obesity is a severe medical problem. It affects one-third of the North American population. Many of these persons are so overweight that obesity is a risk factor to their health. It is a disease of genetic predisposition and behavior. Unfortunately, medical attempts at relief from obesity are rarely successful in the long term. Our multi-disciplinary approach to successful long-term weight loss makes us unique.
