Cardio-Pulmonary Rehabilitation

The inpatient Cardio-Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program at Jewish Memorial Hospital and Rehabilitation Center offers an interdisciplinary treatment approach to individuals who are compromised by pulmonary disease and its adverse effects on their health. Short-term intervention improves functional capacity and fosters independence in basic activities of daily living. This program is known for its high success rate of weaning patients from ventilators.

The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program combines the expertise of a board-certified Pulmonologist with registered nurses, respiratory therapists, case managers, dieticians, occupational, speech, physical and recreational therapists, and certified nursing assistants.

We offer a structured program that includes:

  • Aggressive treatment of patients who have been unable to wean from mechanical ventilation
  • Complete educational program directed at helping patients understand the basis for their pulmonary disease
  • Addressing all aspects of lifestyle, environment and medical concerns
  • Comprehensive case management, discharge planning and after care planning

Patients who will benefit from this program include individuals with the following needs:

  • Requiring rehabilitation with aggressive pulmonary monitoring and intervention
  • Requiring weaning from mechanical ventilation
  • Who suffer from illness affecting their ability to breathe independently
  • With respiratory and neurological disorders such as chronic pulmonary obstructive disease (COPD)
  • With pneumonia, cervical cord injuries, and other conditions requiring ventilator dependency
