Therapeutic Services The Rehabilitation
Services Departments at Jewish Memorial Hospital consists of Occupational Therapy,
Physical Therapy, Recreation Therapy and Speech Therapy. Our team treatment
concept embraces the needs and rehabilitation of the whole person. We take
full advantage of all our staff to treat patients who present complicated
diagnoses that require many levels of intervention. We believe the strength
of our teamwork sets us apart and enables us to offer our patients and their
families the opportunity for a better quality of life. Occupational Therapy Occupational
Therapists work with patients who are having trouble managing their everyday
activities because of physical, cognitive, sensory, motor, and/or
psychological problems. Occupational Therapy (OT) helps people with
disabilities to fulfill their roles and responsibilities as spouse, parent,
worker, and/or student. We do this through the use of therapeutic methods,
applied and assistive technology, and environmental modifications. We also
helps caregivers, families, friends, teachers, and employers understand and
gain the skills necessary to support individuals with disabilities, which
maintains or increases their independence.
Physical Therapy is
dedicated to helping restore, maintain, and promote overall physical functioning
for patients with injury or disease processes involving the neuromuscular,
musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary, or central and peripheral nervous systems.
Our Physical Therapy interventions typically include: therapeutic exercise,
functional training, manual therapy, electrotherapeutic modalities,
application and fabrication of appropriate orthoses/assistive devices.
Recreation Therapy is
dedicated to the treatment modality for patients with physical, mental, or
emotional illnesses or disabilities in order that they may participate fully
and independently in chosen life pursuits. Our Recreation Therapists utilize
a patient’s existing skills and interests as well as facilitates the
establishment of new skills for daily living and community functioning. Speech Therapy Speech Therapy
strives to enable patients to communicate as functionally as possible and
helps to determine the patients swallowing function. Our Speech Language
Pathologists assess and treat disorders related to Dysphagia, Language,
Speech, Voice, Communication, and Cognitive-Linguistic Deficits.
